28 Days. Thousands of Diagnoses. One Rare Community.

This February, we’re inviting individuals, families, schools, businesses, churches, healthcare providers, sports teams and brands to Go Rare—and help people living with rare diseases feel seen, supported and less alone.

No donation, purchase, or previous connection to rare disease is required.

There Is a Place for Everyone in the Rare-Disease Community

Rare disease can feel isolating. Families are often left searching for understanding, support and connection while navigating diagnoses most people have never heard of.

Go Rare is an invitation to change that.

Throughout February 2027, people and organizations everywhere are invited to wear stripes, share stories, start conversations and create moments that remind rare-disease families: you are seen, your story matters and you are not alone.

You don’t need a personal connection to rare disease, a large audience or an elaborate event. You simply need a willingness to care.

However you choose to participate, there is a place for you in Go Rare.

WHY the ZEBRA?

In medicine, clinicians have historically been taught:

“When you hear hoofbeats, think horses, not zebras.”

In other words, consider the common diagnosis first.

But for millions of people living with rare diseases, sometimes the answer is the zebra.

Today, the zebra is internationally recognized as a symbol of rare disease—representing the conditions, experiences and stories that are uncommon but deeply important.

During Rare Disease Month, we wear and share zebra stripes to make the rare-disease community more visible.

Every stripe represents a story worth seeing.

Every Story Has a Stripe

Rare disease is not one diagnosis, one experience or one kind of family.

Throughout February, Care for Rare Foundation will share stories from individuals and families across the rare-disease community. These stories will help schools, businesses, healthcare providers and neighbors understand the people behind the statistics.

Share as much or as little as feels comfortable. Your family can participate without sharing private medical information or photographs.
